Grading Criteria

A national credit system is used by Swedish universities to show the scope of a course or study program. One week’s full-time study (40 hours) corresponds to 1.5 higher education credit (hp). Each semester is 20 weeks long, during which a student is expected to take 30 credits’ worth of courses. 1 Swedish credit is equal to 1 ECTS credit. In this paper, we use a recent reform of the Swedish grading system that increased the use of grading, assessment and test-based teaching for pupils in school years 6 and 7 (aged 12–13 years) in order to investigate the importance of systems of assessment for various health-related outcomes. Qualitative evaluations indicate that many pupils per- new grading system was also introduced, but criteria for assessment were given only for the final marks.

In order to pursue the objective of making European grades more transparent, the ECTS grading scale based on a predetermined percentage structure with grades A-F has been replaced by a grading Table (EGT).
